What actually stops working when your TSS expires
Your TallyPrime licence is perpetual. Your subscription is not. Here is the difference, in the order it will affect you.
First, the good news
TallyPrime does not shut down when Tally Software Services lapses. You can keep opening your companies, passing entries and printing invoices. Nobody locks you out of your own books. This is the single most common worry we hear, and it is unfounded.
Now, what you lose
- Statutory updates. When GST rates, return formats or TDS rules change, the release that handles them will not reach you. This is the one that bites hardest, because you usually discover it during a filing deadline.
- e-Invoice and e-Way Bill from inside Tally. Generating IRNs and e-way bills directly at billing time stops. You go back to the portal and manual entry.
- Connected banking and reconciliation. Automatic bank statement fetch and reconciliation stop working.
- Remote access. Owners, auditors and branch users who log in from outside the office lose access.
- Product upgrades. You stay on the release you are on. Over a few years, that gap becomes a migration project rather than an update.
What it costs to restore
TSS renewal is charged annually at 20% of the licence value: ₹4,500 a year for Silver and ₹13,500 a year for Gold, plus GST in both cases. Renewing two years at once takes 10% off — ₹8,100 for Silver and ₹24,300 for Gold before GST. If the subscription lapsed some time ago, renewal may be charged for the intervening period as well — worth checking before you let it run.
How to check your status
Open TallyPrime and look at the licence information on the right of the Gateway screen, or go to F11 → Licensing. The TSS expiry date is shown there. If it is within a month, act now rather than on the day.
Renewing
You can renew from inside TallyPrime, on the Tally website, or through a partner. Through a partner it is usually activated within a couple of hours and you get a GST invoice you can claim credit on. Send us your serial number and we will confirm the expiry date and the amount before anything is paid.
